On the move

Think before you fly

A short domestic flight generates 1.25 tonnes of CO2 pollution per year.Cheap flights have improved the quality of our lives. The commercial, educational and cultural benefits are enormous, but they come at a high cost to the environment. Try to examine each journey and look at alternative ways of traveling.

A short domestic flight generates 1.25 tonnes of CO2 pollution per year. And every seat on a flight from Australia to Europe produces the same CO2 pollution as a small car generates in two years.

Use public transport

Public transportThe more people using public transport means there are fewer cars on the road. Trains are the most efficient in many ways, typically emitting the least carbon per passenger.

Public transport in general produces 90 percent less carbon monoxide, 90 percent less in volatile organic compounds and about half as much CO2 and nitrogen oxide per passenger as private vehicles.

Cars

CarsIt would be almost impossible for most of us to be without a car but there are many things we can do to minimise the impact our driving makes to our CO2 emissions and climate change.

Driving more carefully can improve your fuel consumption by up to 25%. Also, keep your car properly serviced and look at the most global warming friendly model when changing your vehicle.
