Solar Energy in Kenya

The Solar Energy projects near Marsabit in Kenya, brings reliable, sustainable, and clean solar electricity to provide light, run computers, and power a water pump.

The project uses solar technology designed to supply electricity to operate 200 lights for six hours a day; to date, there has been too heavy a reliance on burning fuels for light, with its associated health problems. The solar power enable the residents to cook, have clean water, and light their school and hospital.

The solar-powered pump also powers 10 computers, including access to the internet. This improve learning, and combined with the additional hours of light available per day, will allow the children to do their homework more effectively, and if required, without daylight.

Solar Energy has a massive part to play in fighting climate change; global warming is mainly due to the substantial use of burning fossil fuels for energy. This has pumped vast amounts of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. The use of wood as a fossil fuel is also responsible for deforestation, which further contributes to the greenhouse effect.
